I highly suggest using a red wine that you enjoy drinking on its own, versus purchasing a cheap red wine solely for the drink. Sweeter red wines can be used but will result in a much sweeter cocktail. Dry red wines include cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and pinot noir. Using a dry red wine in this recipe will be best.
